about

SO excited to finally post a new song. It has been a while, life has been so busy lately. I promise that I have several projects that are still in the works, including another lofi dj mix! (No lie, I promise haha)
This song was created from sampling a 1963 recording of Alicia de Larrocha performing Claude Debussy's Arabesque No. 1 and 2. This song is one of my favorites of all times, and it really means more to me than I can even explain. I loved this specific interpretation of the piece, and felt like I was able to take a small snippet of it and give it a new sound that I can call my own. I also sampled a section from a recording of Dr. J. Vernon McGee teaching on Habakkuk 2:20, one of my all time favorite verses.
I chose "Ornamentation" as the title for a few different reasons. The word "Arabesque" is used to describe music in relation to Arabic art and architecture, which was described as being very embellished and ornate. In the original music, the melody is complimented with a lot of beautiful and decorative notes.
I chose to add the bible verse because I felt like it describes my life right now a little bit. I often times get very distracted by all that is going on during my busy weeks, and sometimes all of these things going on can be really appealing amidst the stuff that is overwhelming and difficult. It reminds me of times when I get lost in a tune that is very involved. I very much enjoy complex music that is difficult to analyze. When I am lost in this process, then everything else around me mutes.
I feel challenged because I am often pressing the mute button on my contact with God lately. Habakkuk 2:20 has convicted me to try and silence all of my life's distractions, and sit quietly before the Lord.
Thank you guys so much for reading and listening! More to come soon hopefully haha.
